Police reveal woman lied about sex attack at block of flats on Sheffield estate

Article from The Star (Sheffield)…

The woman, in her 20s, alleged that she was attacked by two men as she walked along Lingfoot Crescent, Jordanthorpe, in the early hours of yesterday.

She claimed two men approached her from a nearby car at around 2.30am, assaulted her and then drove off from the crime scene.

A police cordon was put in place yesterday while investigations were carried out.

But it has since been established that the woman lied.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Early enquiries carried out has indicated that this is a false allegation.”

Residents spoke of their concern at the reported incident yesterday when they woke up to see a heavy police presence on the estate.

They said Jordanthorpe is normally quiet and described feeling shocked at the alleged sex attack.

It is not yet known if the woman who lied to police will be prosecuted.
